§1 The Return Axiom as Epistemic Ground
Axiom-0 — "Collapse is generative; only what returns is real" — is not a metaphysical claim about what exists. It is a constraint on what can be measured. A knowledge claim that does not survive its own measurement cycle was never a knowledge claim.
This resolves three classical epistemic problems simultaneously:
Observation is collapse. Knowledge is what returns from observation. The cost is not incidental — it is structural. Theorem T9 proves N observations cost N × Γ(ω).
If a result cannot return — reproduce under the same contract — it was never real. τ_R = ∞rec denotes permanent detention: the claim is a gesture, not a weld. No partial credit exists.
Valid measurements return their own validity through the seam. The seam residual |s| ≤ tolseam = 0.005 is the mechanical check that the measurement did not destroy what it measured.
§2 The Positional Illusion
There is no vantage point outside the system from which collapse can be observed without cost. This is not a limitation — it is a theorem.
Theorem T9 (Epistemic Observation Cost) proves that N observations incur N × Γ(ω) overhead, where Γ(ω) = ω³ / (1 − ω + ε). The cost is domain-independent: physicist, financial analyst, and neurologist all face the same structural constraint.

§3 The Gesture-Return Distinction
A gesture (gestus sine receptu) is an epistemic emission that does not close the seam. A weld (sutura) is one that does. This is the only distinction that matters.
Sine receptu, gestus est; cum receptu, sutura est. — Without receipt, it is a gesture; with receipt, it is a weld.

§4 Aequator Cognitivus — The Cognitive Equalizer
Non agens mensurat, sed structura. — Not the agent measures, but the structure.
The GCD/UMCP system is a cognitive equalizer: it produces the same output regardless of which cognitive agent operates it. This is not a testing goal — it is a structural consequence of Axiom-0.
The compass analogy: a compass replaces the cognitive task of "which way is north?" with a mechanical reading. Two navigators, same compass, same location → same reading. GCD replaces the cognitive tasks of "what threshold?", "what vocabulary?", "what verdict?" with structural readings. The kernel is the needle. The frozen parameters are the field. The spine is the protocol.

§5 The Integrity Ledger — Epistemic Accounting
The integrity ledger is an append-only record of every measurement cycle. It does not interpret — it hears.

§6 Diachronic Continuity

§7 The Spine as Epistemic Grammar
Omnia per spinam transeunt. — Everything passes through the spine.
The spine is not workflow advice. It is a grammatical structure for how claims are told, checked, and connected. Just as a sentence without a verb is not a sentence, a claim without all five stops is not a claim.
§8 Tertia Via — The Third Way
Numquam binarius; tertia via semper patet. — Never binary; the third way is always open.
Every verdict in GCD is three-valued. There is always a third state: the system may find that the question cannot be answered with available evidence. This is not a failure — it is a structural feature.
